Stock-up Sunday-14/06

stock up sunday

Stock up Sunday is a weekly post where I showcase the books I have added to my eclectic bookshelf that week! Credit goes back to the Stacking the Shelves weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

This weeks is pretty big as I have been travelling the world recently and picked up lots of books, but had no internet (and then no computer) to update my blog! So lots of updates coming this way!

Bought

The Curvy Girls Club by Michele Gorman

The Curvy Girls Club

The Universe Versus Alex Woods

Sweet Temptation by Lucy Diamond

Sweet Temptation

The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck

Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Truman Capote

Breakfast at Tiffany's

I bought this book in the airport on my way to Cork and read it on the plane, and it is amazing! I think writers who can write in an accent successfully are so talented!

Paper Towns by John Green

The film coming out later this year might have had something to do with this book buy…

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

darker shade of magic

Excited to try this after loving Vicious by the same author.

Borrowed

Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke

Jonathan Strange

My sister Katrina (who blogs over at http://electric-daisy.co.uk) lent me this book and I am so glad she did as I really want to read it but I am on a bit of a book ban at the moment. I have so many books to read I haven’t allowed myself to buy any more, but it doesn’t count if it is borrowed, right?

Foreign Affairs and Other Stories by Sean O’Faolain

The Woman Who Walked Into Doors by Roddy Doyle

woman into doors

Stephen Hero by James Joyce

The Literary Writings of Patrick Pearse Edited by Seamas ‘O Buachalla

A Star Called Henry by Roddy Doyle

Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha by Roddy Doyle

paddy clarke ha ha ha

These were all lent to me by my godmother Mary who decided I couldn’t go to University College Cork without reading some classic Irish literature!

Given

Ulysses by James Joyce

Dubliners by James Joyce

The Metaphysical Poets Edited by Helen Gardner

The Metaphysical Poets

Pygmalion by Bernard Shaw

Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime and Other Stories by Oscar Wilde

These books were all given to me by my mother who found them in a bookshop in Clevedon near Bristol. (http://www.clevedoncommunitybookshop.coop/)

You Are Welcome to Wales by Phil Knight

Phil Knight is a member of my Writers Group in Neath and this is his new collection of poems, which was given to me to read by Phil! I have heard a few of them being read at the writers group and I am really excited to read the rest. Also, the cover is so amazing! I can’t wait to post a review!

IN OTHER NEWS!

I am trying to find a writers magazine to subscribe to. I have picked up Writers Forum and Writing Magazine. If anyone out there knows about these sorts of things and wouldn’t mind nudging me in the direction of a good writing magazine, or thinks one of the two I have picked up is the best, comments would be much appreciated!

Thanks for stopping by! Link me up to your Stacking the Shelves posts!

Much booky love,

Thirteen Days of Midnight by Leo Hunt

Thirteen Days of Midnight

When Luke Manchett’s estranged father dies suddenly, he leaves his son a dark inheritance. Luke has been left in charge of his father’s ghost collection: eight restless spirits. They want revenge for their long enslavement, and in the absence of the father, they’re more than happy to take his son. It isn’t fair, but you try and reason with the vengeful dead.

Expected publication: July 2nd 2015 by Orchard Books

Cold Burn of Magic by Jennifer Estep

Cold Burn Magic

There Be Monsters Here. . .
It’s not as great as you’d think, living in a tourist town that’s known as “the most magical place in America.” Same boring high school, just twice as many monsters under the bridges and rival Families killing each other for power.
I try to keep out of it. I’ve got my mom’s bloodiron sword and my slightly illegal home in the basement of the municipal library. And a couple of Talents I try to keep quiet, including very light fingers and a way with a lock pick.
But then some nasty characters bring their Family feud into my friend’s pawn shop, and I have to make a call–get involved, or watch a cute guy die because I didn’t. I guess I made the wrong choice, because now I’m stuck putting everything on the line for Devon Sinclair. My mom was murdered because of the Families, and it looks like I’m going to end up just like her. .

Expected publication: April 28th 2015 by Kensington Books

Thanks NetGalley and the Publishers for these ARCs!

So, link me up to your Book Hauls and I will come and check them out! Have you read any of these books? Or do you want to read any of them? Comment below!

I am off to do some reading now!

The most exciting boxes to ever arrive out of nowhere!

I went a bit overboard on the books this week, and spent a lot of Christmas money. However, I am sure it is money well spent, as I cannot wait to get stuck in to these books, hopefully my reading slump is soon to be over!
