illuminae

Expected publication: October 20th 2015
Publisher: Knopf Books

From Goodreads
This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.
This afternoon, her planet was invaded.
The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.
But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on.      As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.
Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

Why I Am Waiting Anxiously…

This book first came to my attention when Little Book Owl (Catriona) marked it as read on Goodreads, and her reaction was pretty epic. Then I read the description and from what I can gather, it seems like a multimedia-type novel, which I am really into after starting House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. I just hope this book lives up to the mega-hype surrounding it!

What is your “Waiting on” pick this week? Anyone else excited for Illuminae? Have any of you lucky reviewers read it?

“Waiting on” Wednesday: Of Dreams and Rust

Waiting on Wednesday

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

Of Dreams and Rust

From Goodreads

War erupts in this bittersweet sequel to “Of Metal and Wishes”, inspired by The Phantom of the Opera and called “relentlessly engrossing” by The Romantic Times.

In the year since the collapse of the slaughterhouse where Wen worked as her father’s medical assistant, she’s held all her secrets close. She works in the clinic at the weapons factory and sneaks away to nurse Bo, once the Ghost, now a boy determined to transform himself into a living machine. Their strange, fragile friendship soothes some of the ache of missing Melik, the strong-willed Noor who walked away from Wen all those months ago—but it can’t quell her fears for him.

The Noor are waging a rebellion in the west. When she overhears plans to crush Melik’s people with the powerful war machines created at the factory, Wen makes the painful decision to leave behind all she has known—including Bo—to warn them. But the farther she journeys into the warzone, the more confusing things become. A year of brutality seems to have changed Melik, and Wen has a decision to make about him and his people: How much is she willing to sacrifice to save them from complete annihilation?

Why I’m Waiting Anxiously

I absolutely loved the first book in this Duology (I know, not many authors go for Duologies nowadays, so knowing that Of Metal and Wishes is a duology kinda excited me- weird? Maybe!) but there were some things left unresolved at the end of the first book. Will the Noor win their fight? Will Wen and Melik be together again? Is Melik still as idealistic as he always was or has war hardened him? Is this book going to live up to the five star rating I gave Of Metal and Wishes?

Also, that cover is beautiful! These books have had such lovely covers!

I read the first book on PulseIt and I really want to buy it, so I might be making a dual purchase of both books once I have some monies in my bank account!

What is your Waiting on Wednesday this week? Anyone else out there excited for Of Dreams and Rust?

Much booky love

“Waiting on” Wednesday: Eve: The Awakening by Jenna Moreci

Waiting on Wednesday

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

eve

Expected publication: 12th August 2015

From Goodreads

Eve is an outcast. A chimera.
After years of abuse and rejection, 19-year-old Evelyn Kingston is ready for a fresh start in a new city, where no one knows her name. The esteemed Billington University in sunny Southern California seems like the perfect place to reinvent herself—to live the life of an ordinary human.
But things at Billington aren’t as they seem. In a school filled with prodigies, socialites, and the leaders of tomorrow, Eve finds that the complex social hierarchy makes passing as a human much harder than she had anticipated. Even worse, Billington is harboring a secret of its own: Interlopers have infiltrated the university, and their sinister plans are targeted at chimeras—like Eve.
Instantly, Eve’s new life takes a drastic turn. In a time filled with chaos, is the world focusing on the wrong enemy? And when the situation at Billington shifts from hostile to dangerous, will Eve remain in the shadows, or rise up and fight?

Why I am waiting anxiously…

I have been looking forward to this book for what seems like forever! I read the first three chapters here and couldn’t wait to get more of Eve! Poor Jenna Moreci is probably quite fed up of my excited messages and semi-stalker comments! Sorry Jenna! You are just so darn awesome!  I think this is definitely my most anticipated book of the year, so when it got it’s release date last week I was really excited that I could now feature it on WoW!

Need more reason to check out Eve?

1. Eve is badass. Like combat boots and snarky attitude badass. Is it weird that I want her for my friend?

2. Jason Valentine, my future book boyfriend. H-O-T. Although Eve might not want to be my friend then?

3. Jenna takes the rules of writing, holds them up and then stomps on them before burning them. This is her voice, and hers alone. And honestly? I think New Adult has been waiting for an author like that.

4. Madison, Eve’s roommate. She is all kinds of awful and I think I am going to enjoy it when Eve takes her down. I really hope she will!

5. The fact that this is set in an alternate world, but it is basically a US college, in the future. I love reading about schools in the US!

Jenna also has a really awesome YouTube channel for all of you would-be writers out there containing loads of tips and tricks for writing and publishing your book. I have shared the first video I ever saw by Jenna below. Enjoy!

Why I am waiting anxiously…

This is inspired by One Thousand and One Nights which has always fascinated me. I am excited to see which direction this story takes and I have really got in to “fairytale retellings” recently.

Also, what a pretty cover! I think this will definitely be a book I want a physical copy of!

Yay! I can finally feature The Other Side of Envy on my WoW post! IT HAS A COVEEEER!!

Release date: April 28th 2015

other side of envy

From Goodreads

Sang Sorenson dreams of what life might be like for her in the Academy, but joining isn’t as easy as simply writing an exam or passing an interview. She’ll need to pull the team together to get them on her side in order for it to work, which is harder than it sounds. The boys will do anything to protect her, which, for some, means keeping her out.

But that’s not all that’s going on in Sang’s complicated life. After a shocking revelation, Gabriel Coleman splinters himself off from everyone, avoiding not just his Academy team, but even going so far as to avoid Sang. Desperate to bring him back and get him on her side, Sang digs deep into his past to try to discover a way to reach out to him.

His truth is riddled with tragic events, but with the help of Kota, Victor, Silas, Nathan, Luke and North, she might be able to reach out to him before envy and despair drag him too far down to be saved.

The Academy, Deeply Bonded

Why I am waiting anxiously…

To be honest, I have been waiting for this book since I read the last one in the series, House of Korba. Then, when I found out it was going to be Gabriel’s book, I freaked! Gabriel is probably my favourite academy boy.

I already pressed the magical green button to preorder!! If you don’t know why preordering is important, click here!

If you haven’y read any of the Academy books, the first one is free on Amazon and it is called Introductions.

What is your “Waiting on” Wednesday this week? Link me up in the comments and I will be sure to come check it out!

“Waiting on” Wednesday: The Girl at Midnight

Waiting on Wednesday

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey

Coming April 28th 2015

The Girl at Midninght

From Goodreads

For readers of Cassandra Clare’s City of Bones and Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone, The Girl at Midnight is the story of a modern girl caught in an ancient war.

Beneath the streets of New York City live the Avicen, an ancient race of people with feathers for hair and magic running through their veins. Age-old enchantments keep them hidden from humans. All but one. Echo is a runaway pickpocket who survives by selling stolen treasures on the black market, and the Avicen are the only family she’s ever known.

Echo is clever and daring, and at times she can be brash, but above all else she’s fiercely loyal. So when a centuries-old war crests on the borders of her home, she decides it’s time to act.

Legend has it that there is a way to end the conflict once and for all: find the Firebird, a mythical entity believed to possess power the likes of which the world has never seen. It will be no easy task, but if life as a thief has taught Echo anything, it’s how to hunt down what she wants . . . and how to take it.

But some jobs aren’t as straightforward as they seem. And this one might just set the world on fire.

Why I am waiting anxiously

I have really got into Urban Fantasy books lately, and this book’s description kind of reminds me of Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor.

Also, I loved the Mortal Instruments books and feel like I am in  bit of a book slump recently, where I pick up my new books, read the back and then put them back down. I need something to revitalise my passion and I am hoping that The Girl at Midnight might be just the book to do it!

This is also the authors debut novel and I am hoping that this will be a author that I will want to follow for years!

“Waiting on” Wednesday: Fairest by Marissa Meyer

Waiting on Wednesday

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted over at breaking the spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

Fairest by Marissa Meyer

Coming January 27th 2015

Fairest

Fairest is Queen Levana’s book from the Lunar Chronicles. It is being called book 0.1 as the events actually take place before Cinder which is book 1 of the Lunar Chronicles. The Lunar Chronicles are a retelling of everyone’s favourite fairy stories but on a future earth. There is Cinder, the cyborg, Scarlet who meets a street fighter called Wolf whilst trying to get back her grandmother and Cress, a girl who was locked in a satellite by an evil queen and had (incredibly) long golden tresses. If you haven’t heard of the Lunar Chronicles, go and buy them now. Seriously, stop reading this post and buy them. Then come back to this post of course!!!

Here is the order of the Lunar Chronicles books

Book 1 Cinder
Book 2 Scarlet
Book 3 Cress

Book 4 Winter (released in November 2015)

From Goodreads

In this stunning bridge book between Cress and Winter in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles, Queen Levana’s story is finally told.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Who is the fairest of them all?

Fans of the Lunar Chronicles know Queen Levana as a ruler who uses her “glamour” to gain power. But long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress, Levana lived a very different story – a story that has never been told . . . until now.

Marissa Meyer spins yet another unforgettable tale about love and war, deceit and death. This extraordinary book includes full-color art and an excerpt from Winter, the next book in the Lunar Chronicles series.

Why I am waiting anxiously

I finished Scarlet yesterday and I absolutely loved it. However, throughout the series, there has been a lot of mystery surrounding Queen Levana. Apart from the fact that she is a meany (understatement of the century), we don’t really know a lot about her. Why is she so horrible. Why won’t she let anyone see her without her glamour? I read the first chapter of this book on the Lunar Chronicles website, and I think we will be learning a lot more about the difficult life of a Lunar Queen.

“Waiting on” Wednesday: Fake

Waiting on Wednesday

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted over at breaking the spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

Fake by C.L. Stone

Coming January 29th 2015

fake cl stone

This is the third book in the Scarab Beetle series by C.L. Stone AND I AM EXCITED. Can you tell? The first two books are Thief and Liar, Fake is the third book in this parallel series! (This is parallel Academy series for older readers. There is some crossover with the Ghost Bird series, but this series features a whole new set of characters WHO ARE ALSO COMPLETELY AWESOME.)

Ok, so I cannot find a description for this book, but there is an excerpt at the end of Liar. However, I don’t want to post this here, as if you haven’t read Thief and Liar, first you will be confused, and then you will be annoyed as it contains SO MANY SPOILERS from the first two books!! So if you want to know what this series is all about, go and read Thief! (In fact, I think it is free on Kindle at the moment!)

Why I am waiting anxiously

C.L. Stone has this knack for making you fall in love with her characters and never wanting to leave their worlds. Therefore, when you reach the end of a book, waiting for the next one feels like one of those dreams where you are running as fast as you can but it is never fast enough. Which doesn’t sound very pleasant. But honestly, actually reading the books makes the wait in between worth it. Which tells you how much I love the books. Ok, I am babbling, I will shut up now.

In all seriousness, the books will make you laugh, squirm with happiness and shout with happiness. The lead characters are the sort of girls you want to be friends, no, sisters, with. The boys are, well, swoon! they have the looks, and the brains and they are all so different from each other, as well as majorly challenging some male heterosexual, homosexual and other stereotypes.  There is excitement, love and mystery…(who the heck is the Academy?). When you can read the series for the third, fourth, even fifth time, and you get new things from the characters and plot every time, I think it is a sign of a great series!

Basically, go and read all the books now. I started with the Ghost bird series, then moved on to the Scarab beetle series, but I don’t think it really matters which way you delve in to the exciting world of the Academy.

However, if you are smart, you will start these books just before Fake comes out, so you don’t have to suffer that awful not running fast enough dream feeling……

What book are you waiting on today? Link me to your WoW post and I will be sure to check it out!

Much Love,

“Waiting on” Wednesday: All Fall Down

Waiting on Wednesday

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted over at breaking the spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

All Fall Down by Ally Carter

Coming January 20th 2015

All Fall Down final cover

From allycarter.com:

Grace Blakely is absolutely certain of three things:

1. She is not crazy.
2. Her mother was murdered.
3. Someday she is going to find the killer and make him pay.

As certain as Grace is about these facts, nobody else believes her–so there’s no one she can completely trust. Not her grandfather, a powerful ambassador. Not her new friends, who all live on Embassy Row. Not Alexei, the Russian boy next door who is keeping an eye on Grace for reasons she neither likes nor understands.

Everybody wants Grace to put on a pretty dress and a pretty smile, blocking out all her unpretty thoughts. But they can’t control Grace–no more than Grace can control what she knows or what she needs to do.

Her past has come back to hunt her . . .  and if she doesn’t stop it, Grace isn’t the only one who will get hurt. Because on Embassy Row, the countries of the world all stand like dominoes, and one wrong move can make them all fall down.

Why I am waiting anxiously

I am really excited about this book because I loved her other series, The Gallagher Girls and the Heist Society books as well as her adult novels, Learning to Play Gin and Cheating at Solitaire. I am hoping this will have just as much adventure and excitement and will carry me away to another world like so many of her other books have!
